Cultural, Environmental, and Applied Anthropologist.
I was born in Southern California, but I spent my life between the U.S. and Mexico. Although I call the U.S. home, my interest and appreciation for cultures throughout the Americas, particularly Mexico, have always contributed to my identity and understanding of self.
I spent much of my early adult years studying art, photography, and videography allowing me to see humanity’s existence through a creative lens while providing insight into stereotypes and biases that form the western world’s social definition of beauty and acceptance. The artistic perspective also gave way to the realm of the ‘other’ and how the strange and unfamiliar can also be the most fascinating aspect of humanity.
The creative lens served as a supplement to my studies in anthropology, which I pursued years after working in media, by providing me with the tools to deconstruct, critique, question, and view the human experience in a more holistic way. Tools that are necessary to understand the complex world that humans have created for themselves and their relationship with the environment around them.
